The StateOwned Enterprises (BUMN) Ministry and Padjajaran University (Unpad) have officially opened the BUMN Center of Excellence (BCE) at the state university, which is will serve as a platform for BUMN and scholars to team up in developing solutions to help maximize companies' business performance. The center, located at Unpad's campus in Bandung, West Java, will use an integrated data warehouse system to compile various business related data provided by state owned companies to allow Unpad researchers to come up with innovative answers for their problems. Among the information compiled in the system is manpower data and product specifications, Unpad rector Tri Hanggono Achmad said. "Currently, corporate data is scat
tered everywhere. We already have the data hub system, what we need now is to build a culture of data sharing among stateowned enterprises," he said on the sidelines of the launching of the BCE in Jakarta on Monday.
StateOwned Enterprises Minister Rini Soemarno said the center would allow business players and academics to exchange thoughts and knowledge. "Their [collaborative] research will help solve many problems. They
can lead to inventions, for example, on how to process tins into value added products and how to produce
the raw materials of drugs to reduce imports," she said. As many as 26 stateowned enterprises, including pharmaceutical company PT Bio Farma, train operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia, oil and gas developer Pertamina and telecommunications provider Telkomsel, have signed cooperation agreements with the university to provide relevant corporate data for the newly launched center. In the future, the center is expect
ed to build collaboration with all the country's 119 state enterprises. The launch of the center, Rini said, was in line with President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's vision to pull all the state enterprises under one roof. Among the analyses being conducted at the center are those related to the distribution of subsidized fertilizers for farmers and the mapping of present and future potential tea plantations in Pandeglang, West Java, in cooperation with state owned plantation firm PTPN VIII. Telkom Indonesia deputy for research and big data Komang B. Aryasa also underlined the importance of data integration for scientific research. "With the advancement of technology, state enterprises advance as well in their data storage, thus leading to an exponential growth of data as time goes on. This huge data amount of needs to be integrated and analyzed, but the manpower [to carry this out] is still limited. "Thus, 'Data Warehouse' is made for academics to help business practitioners process the data," he said.
