(English) Bio Farma Took Part within the Earth Hour Activity of 2013
The dark ambience were clearly seen from the office and building of Bio Farma on Jl. Pasteur 28, Bandung, on the last Saturday of March 23rd 2013. This dark situation of Bio Farma’s building was one of Bio Farma’s supports to welcome the 2013 earth hour activity. This activity which was followed by the only vaccine producer company was held on 8:30 pm - 9:30 pm. According to the Head of Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) dr. Erwin Setiawan, this Earth Hour movement was not only the activity of turning the lights or the other electronic devices off, it was more to the concern of Bio Farma towards the global warming issue due to the electrical power use, “This activity that we take part in is done not only for the sake of the energy saving but also the take part as the commitment of Bio Farma in the environmental preservation, where environment is one of the four pillars of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities of Bio Farma.” Saving Energy As it was told before that this earth hour activity was the commitment of Bio Farma within the energy saving activity in order to reduce the greenhouse effect on the ozone layer. This energy saving activity was conducted by Bio Farma since the last 2008 by invoking and implementing the Saving Energy program. According to the Corporate Secretary of Bio Farma, Rahman Roestan, the result of the energy saving was 10-20% of the total energy use. “We have been conducting this energy saving activity since 2008. We implement this activity within every unit of the company. The result of this energy saving, the company can save the energy use for about 9870 kwh every month.” (PR/EGP) This energy saving activity was not limited to the electricital power use only, but also for the water use within the environment of the company, especially for the production activities. The Head of CSR and General Division R. Herry said that the water savings which conducted by Bio Farma was the wastewater reuse from the Wastewater Disposal Instalation (IPAL) and the drainage to be used within the vaccine production. “Bio Farma has successfully conducted the water saving for 584 M3 until 2012. We conducted this savings due to the recovery for the waste water from the IPAL outlet to be capably used as the raw water for the vaccine production.” said R. Herry. (EGP/PR)
